Structure of Asteraceae Inflorescence:

• capitulum or head--inflorescence, indeterminate (oldest flowers on outside), in which flowers are crowded on receptacle and resemble a single flower

• phyllary--involucral bracts surrounding the head; may be scarious (papery) in some groups

• florets--flowers in a capitulum

• receptacle--structure on which the florets sit

• chaffy bracts--often inserted on receptacle in addition to phyllaries
