Criteria for selection of areas for conservation(US Congress):

• Congress says that there are three criteria for selection of areas for conservation:

  • Uniqueness of ecosystem
  • Genetic uniqueness of species and populations
  • Economic value of species.

• The above criteria are reiterated at the USGS Biological Resources Division Website.
