Recognition characters for the Rosaceae:

• Leaves alternate, compound or simple

• Stipules present

• Stamens many, at least 2X number of petals

• Hypanthium present

• Fruits often with hypanthium or receptacle enlarged and fleshy (e.g. strawberries, rose hips, apples) or aggregates (e.g. raspberries, blackberries)
