Recognition characters of the Euphorbiacae:

• Milky sap

• Unisexual flowers

• Usually apetalous

• cyathium--cuplike involucre of 4-5 bracts. Each bract has a pair of glands that may form petaloid appendages. Each cyathium has 3-many staminate flowers and 1 pistillate flower.

• Superior 3-carpellate ovary with forked styles

• Fruit a schizocarp
