Advantages:
- Solves the problem of intermittent hybridization as one can allow it as long as it doesn’t affect the ultimate evolutionary trajectory.
- Solves the problem of clonal lineages, as one can assume that they share a common ancestor and so form a species.
Problem:
- Isn’t testable: no way to know if the species share a common ancestor or if they have a different evolutionary trajectory
