The applicant is applying to the Cornell University Undergraduate Research Program on Biodiversity in the Amazon and Caribbean. This is a three-month research summer program organized by Dr. Eloy Rodriguez of Cornell University. The objective of the program is to encourage and facilitate access and successful completion of graduate studies by students in the biological sciences. Minority Students are strongly encouraged to apply. The training program includes seminars in field biology, conservation, ethnobotany, phytochemistry, zoopharmacognosy, ecology, plant systematics, and tropical biology, and participation in on-going research on biodiversity. The program this summer will begin in the Amazonas state of Venezuela, and/or the Greater Antilles of the Caribbean, including the island of Hispaniola (specifically the Cornell University Biodiversity Center at Punta Cana, Dominican Republic).

Your candid assessment of the applicant’s ability and potential would be greatly appreciated. The selection committee is particularly interested in the following: 1.) The applicant’s performance in your class(es); 2.) Your assessment of the applicant’s ability to conduct field and/or laboratory research; 3.)
