Isozymes and Allozymes:
Isozymes are genetically controlled variants of enzymes which have various metabolic functions in plants. Distinction between:
- Isozymes (homologous proteins coded by different loci) and
- Allozymes (allelic variants of a particular protein formed at the same locus)
Allows us to examine the alleles at loci without doing crossing studies
Procedure:
- Enzymes extracted from the plant
- Separated via electrophoresis
- Get bands of proteins that reflect isozyme profile
